Reunion Attendees, Greenville, SC, October 2025

Welcome! The Pierre Chastain Family Association is a non-profit family organization dedicated to doing genealogical research on the descendants of Pierre Chastain (1659-1728) who immigrated from France to Virginia in the year 1700.

Pierre's descendants, as with most American families of this era, migrated westward from his original home in Virginia, both across and up and down the Appalachian Mountains, and from there further westward.

Later generations came to use varied spellings of the surname for various reasons. Common spelling variations of Chastain include Chastaine, Chasteen, Chastine, Chesteen, Shasteen, and Shastine.  The spelling was also corrupted as Chasten and Shatteen on many early legal documents.

This site is instrumental in keeping the Chastain family informed on the new developments in the never-ending genealogical research. The first six generations of descendants of Pierre Chastain are well researched and published in books available on the Publications page.

However, we still have numerous family units that are unplaced or there is little legal evidence to make connections with earlier generations. So, the effort continues via new record search availability and of course our DNA Project.

Our Member Area is a repository of member research, documents pertaining to Chastain genealogy and family history.  The data contained there reflects the current "official" lineages of Pierre, not the often garbled, mixed up names, as seen on various online entities.

If you have a Chastain (or variant surname spelling) ancestor or have interest in Chastain family genealogy, genealogical research, we extend an invitation of membership to all. More information regarding is available on the Memberships page.
